Helpful Tips to Win the Queens Commonwealth Essay Competition – 2023

The Commonwealth is a voluntary network of 56 countries, based on a shared English language and the key values of democracy, equality, tolerance, human rights and the rule of law.

The Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition is the world’s oldest international writing competition. This year 2023 marks 140 years since it was established in 1883. With thousands of young people taking part every year, it is an important way to recognise achievement, elevate youth voices and develop key skills through creative writing.

This year, The Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition is open for entries between 16 March and 30 June 2023.

The Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition 2023 asks entrants to explore the power young people hold within the global community and consider how this power can be harnessed to make a meaningful impact in the world.

There are two categories namely: Junior category – for young people under fourteen (14) years of age. Senior category – young people between 14 and 18 years of age

Entrants should write on one of the four topics in each category. Word limits are 1,500 and 750 words respectively.

The top two winners from each category will be awarded with a trip to London for a week of educational and cultural events, culminating in a special special Awards Ceremony.

AWARDS

All successful entries will receive a Certificate of Participation and a number of entrants will receive Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards for excellence in writing.

Helpful Tips to Win Queens Commonwealth Essay Competition

  • Get a good understanding of the competition by browsing through the Royal Commonwealth Society’s Website. See the terms and conditions, Frequently Asked Questions and the testimony of the past winers.
  • Decide on writing on just one of the four topics in your category
  • Make a careful consideration on the form of writing in which you would like to present your entry. You may choose to write, a letter, a speech, a poem or what have you.
  • Be original – Use your own word and dare not copy from other sources.
  • Start on time, don’t procrastinate so that you’d have enough time to proofread or engage someone to crosscheck your work to ensure that it is error-free before the submission deadline.
  • Your work should be properly formatted to make the presentation visually appealing
