What a joy it would be for Dapchi parents to have their children return? The big broad smile on the face of PMB when Yusuf Buhari got back from medical trip to Germany was contagious but if you’re a parent of one of the 110 Dapchi Girls, you would weep!
Although it is so good to have the President’s son back hale and hearty after that unfortunate accident, yet it is sad to note that other Nigerian’s children remain in the custody of terrorists, going through unthinkable abuse. Despite the bad condition of the school, the girls tried hard to get education to make better lives, yet some coward elements made them a target. Even the government apparatus saddled with the responsibility of protecting the vulnerable girls were caught unawares or perceived complicit.
News of Yusuf’s return was broken by the wife of the President, Aisha Buhari on her twitter handle…
We thank God for the return of our son Yusuf today after his medical trip. On land at the airport he was received by the Minister of Health (State) Dr. Osagie, while at the Villa he was welcomed by family members, Wife of the Vice President, the Interior minister ,

Irrespective of the claimed hand over by the army to the police of the school’s security prior to the incidence, it had actually been observed that the police never stay where the army are moving from. They are wise enough! The Federal Government has finally released the full details of the 110 girls who were still missing after the attack on the Government Girls Science and Technical College (GGSTC), Dapchi, Yobe. It happened on February 19, 2018. On the list are 8 JSS1, 17 JSS2, 12 JSS3, 40 SS1, 19 SS2 and 14 SS3 students.
The UN’s Secretary-General, Anthonio Guterres has called for the unconditional release of the abducted girls. In a statement made through his spokesman on Nigeria, Stephane Dujarric on February 28, Mr Guterres expressed a grave concern and asked the government to ensure that the girls return safely to their families. He however assured Nigerian government of the United Nations’ support and solidarity.
The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadiq Abubakar has since relocated to Yobe in a bid to facilitate the rescue of the girls. Also the Inspector General of Police and the Commandant off NSCDC have been ordered to relocate to the North Eastern Nigeria to consolidate ongoing security efforts.
It is seriously hoped that Dapchi girls’ situation will not turn out like that of Chibok girls of whom many are still in their captors den after four years.
