The Olukoya boys, MFM Football Club has proven to us again that it is rewarding to have a vision and pursue it diligently. It happened on Wednesday November 1, 2017 as Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode doled out a cash of 50 million Naira to MFM FC. The cash gift was composed of 25 million for facility support and 25 million to be shared among players and officials of the club.
This gesture according to Ambode was in appreciation of the club’s brilliant performance in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) of 2016/17 season. MFM Football Club had qualified to participate in 2018 CAF Champion’s League, thereby putting Lagos on the Continental radar. Governor Ambode submitted that it’s been 16 years since Lagos featured in CAF Championship.
While addressing the players and the officials of the team at the Lagos House, Alausa Ikeja, the state’s helm’s man acknowledged the visionary leadership of the General Overseer of Mountain of Fire and Miracle Church, Dr. D. K. Olukoya for creating such platform for youths to express their prowess.
Founded in 2007, MFM FC gained promotion to the Nigeria Premier League (NPL) only in 2015. The Mountain Top FC as they are otherwise known ply their trade at the 5,200 capacity Agege Stadium in Lagos. In 2014, MFM Football Club won the Church World Cup following an overwhelming 7-0 victory over the United Church of Colombia in the final. That tournament was held in India.
Isn’t it exiting to hear news as this? You cannot but feel proud to be a member of the body of Christ! When the Head of the Church Himself says, "you are the light of the world…," this is a classic demonstration.
It will be quite dignifying to have citizens of God’s kingdom doing this kind of exploits in every sector of the society, including politics. Social action, not Church program presents Christians as the light to their world.
