Good News? Pastor Tunde Bakare to Run for President!

Tunde Bakare

Former running mate to Nigeria’s incumbent President in the 2011 general election, Tunde Bakare has revealed his ambition to run for the position of President in the future.

The convener of Save Nigeria Group (SNG) who doubles as the founder of Latter Rain Assembly and a lawyer made this known to his audience at the Watch night service of the church at Ogba, Lagos.

In his own word, Pastor Bakare says:

"I heard the Lord say to me, ‘you cannot bring your political career to a close, there is still more to do, run for the Presidency.’ And He said to me, ‘I will do it at the appointed time.’ I shared this with you so that you can pray along with me. God has not told me the exact time but said He will make it happen in due course…"

2018 has actually been viewed in many quarter as a political year in Nigeria. To this end, stakeholders and gladiators have already been drawing strategies on how the games would play out.

In a sermon on January 1, 2018, the President of CAN was emphatic, telling his audience to prepare their minds towards the elections of 2019 and participate fully. As Nigerians seem to be on the look out for a formidable competition to President Buhari, among early comers are Atiku, Fayose, and now Bakare though his own time for contesting was wrapped in diplomacy.

I can’t imagine Bakare joining another party though, but if President Buhari is not interested in reelection, he might support him. However, this is also subject to influence from the North. In the case that influence from the North remains as expected, Bakare might shed his Presidential ambition till the appropriate time. Only that we hope this would not turn out like Chris Okotie’s episode.

Pastor Tunde Bakare, I believe must have garnered experience on the political scenario of Nigeria. In Nigeria, good intention, love, righteousness, eloquence, leadership prowess, don’t win election! You have to be able to play the game. Otherwise, Gani Fawehinmi, Prof. Pat Utomi, and Chris Okotie of this world should have emerged winners at the times they contested. What did they get? Ridiculous votes at the polls! Indeed, a people deserves the kind of leadership they get!.

One thing that’s quite needful for all is to get your permanent voter’s card (PVC) ready. Join a political party in your community and participate. There would be more money in circulation, so think of what you can sell to political campaigners. For instance, broom, umbrellas, customized T-shirts, wrist bands, printing services, and so on. The first quarter of the year 2018 is the time to publicize your business and look for strategic partnerships or political collaborations.
