Sequel to our previous post where we accorded the Commissioner of Police in Yobe Nigeria, the benfit of the doubt, fresh disturbing facts have emerged. Recall that we earlier posed to agree with him when he said no life was lost and no girl was abducted in the attack. This position has so far been proven to be false.

Although the falsehood was earlier corroborated by the state Governor, Ibrahim Geidam, he has now rescinded by issuing a public apology. The Governor had said that all the abducted girls had been rescued by a team of the Nigerian Army on operation. He has however admitted that the source he had relied on was wrong and declared that truly an unidentified number of girls are missing and that non of them has been rescued.

We had earlier hoped that this did not happen but that hope was dashed and the sad case of the Chibok Girls easily comes to mind. A number of Chibok school girls remain in the custody of the terrorist since April 14, 2014. Now, Dapchi in Yobe is about 175 miles north-west from Chibok. The only difference is that, authorities accepted the fact of the unfortunate incidence sooner than they did in the Chibok case, despite the initial denial. Honestly, we dread a repeat of Chibok!. However, the President has ordered the Army to lunch necessary actions to rescue the girls and neutralize the insurgence.

Information is still sketchy from the federal source as the Minister of Information pleaded with the press to allow him more time before making official statements. All we do know is that boko haram terrorists attacked the Government Girls Science and Technical Secondary School on Monday, February 19, 2018 and adopted several girls while others escaped through the bush.

This is nothing but devastating, more so as the nation was told that boko haram had been defeated. Many parents are now in grief, schools have become a dreaded zone for children, and teachers have become an endangered specie in the region. There is only one comfort that could make sense to the parents. And that’s when the authorities #BringBackOurGirls.
