ALL IT TAKES TO RAISE A SUCCESSFUL CHILD

The multi-dimensional social issues bedeviling our world is an evidence that both the haves and the have nots are guilty of not properly raising their children. Most adolescent these days are transitioning into adults with undetermined socio-economic and career fulfilment due to various levels of deficiencies in their upbringing. Reproducing in multitudes might have been the fad of the agrarian age but in the current civilization, few hands with adequate skills and technology will cultivate thousands of hectares, thereby rendering the multitudes redundant.

ALL IT TAKES TO RAISE A SUCCESSFUL CHILD

Though it’s common to see the rich making a minimal number of children while the poor makes many, the difference between the two categories of people is not in their wealth but the knowledge of all it takes to raise a child. Those who lack the knowledge live, wishing their children turn out well as they put in the normal effort every other parent do. They even tend to make the number of children substantial with the hope that, the more they are, the more the benefits accruable from them at the parent’s old age. On the other hand, the well informed makes plans on each factors to consider in raising a successful child and realize that, judging by the complexity of the task, they would only be able to raise one or two. In fact I appreciate those who decide not to produce children because of their lack of capacity or readiness to give it all it takes.

The multi-dimensional social issues bedeviling our world is an evidence that both the ‘haves’ and the ‘have nots’ are guilty of not properly raising their children. If you agree with my yet to be submitted opinion that the number one strategy for raising successful children in this age is to have them in one or two, then let’s examine all the planning considerations, necessary for raising a successful child.

1. PRAYER PLAN
You must intentionally make concrete plan to pray for your child. Not impromptu, casual or wishy-washy! It is more glaring than ever, that darkness covers the nations and gross darkness the people, the way out is to carry the light that dispels all forms of darkness anywhere, anytime. While your child is still under your care, your ceaseless prayer is capable of making spiritual light and power available for their victory everywhere and every time. Prevailing for your child in the spiritual world is a guarantee that all other efforts by you will be meaningful. Being a free moral agents children have volition to choose their behavior despite excellent upbringing and family heritage. But prayer is a key determinant force!

2. NUTRITION PLAN
There must be plans to nourish your child appropriately at every stage of their development. Plan to adequately nourish your child must take effect even before conception and continue throughout conception. It involves exclusive breastfeeding from age zero to 6 months of birth. Proper weekly and documented plan of child’s nutrition liberates you from the strand of deciding what menu to give the child per time. At the beginning, it may require learning, consulting nutritionists and pediatricians, creativity, planning and doing but it becomes a convenient standard with time. Throughout adolescent, that’s between 10-19 years, it is important to feed your child with RDA (Recommended Dietry/Daily Allowance) for proper physical and intellectual development as well as the maintenance of sound health and vigor. Underweight and overweight are symptoms of significant malnutrition but there are many other latent defects that would culminate in distasteful outcome as the child transits into adulthood.

3. FORMAL EDUCATION PLAN
You should have a twenty years goals, spanning from pre-primary education till your child acquires their first degree. This could be broken down into stages, mentioning the preferred schools, location, care and finances involved. Strategies must be mapped out as to how to realize the goals and you could have plans A, B, and C. It doesn’t take just wishes or availability of money to give your child the best of formal education, It entails many things with deliberate planning and assiduity. According to a theory of school reform in the United States of America, high school education standards have been achieved based on the principle of three Rs – 1.Rigor: challenging curriculum that prepares students for college or work; 2.Relevance: courses and projects that clearly relates to children’s lives and their goals; 3.Relationships: Ensuring that kids have a number of adults who know them, look out for them and push them to achieve.

4. FAMILY EDUCATION PLAN
Charity begins at home! This implies that the building blocks of a prosperous society are molded in a microcosm known as the family. Moral values, sound character, acceptable behavior, discipline, respect, ability to love and be loved, diligence, cooperation, obedience to authorities, and so on are cultivated in a child within the family. I wrote a series on this earlier- Importance of Family Education; Importance of Family Education (Part Two), please read it up.
