1. Paralegal Studies

Paralegal Studies trains you to be able to perform specific delegated legal works on behalf of a lawyer, this may be as an assistant to a lawyer or as an employee in a law office, corporation, government agency, or other relevant organization.

You will acquire basic theoretical and practical knowledge in areas such as legal research and methods, Nigerians laws, art of para-legalism, legal documentation, law office management and professionalism, procedures of litigation, legal secretariat services, business law, criminal law, property law, accounting principles, computer appreciation and more.

Personality Type for Paralegal Studies

Paralegal studies requires a trainee to be able to carry out research independently. It involves a lot of writing, with strong command of English language and usage of technology. Self-motivation, service rendering, and supportive disposition are also appropriate.

NBTE’s Objectives for Paralegal Studies

NID in Paralegal Studies is designed to prepare diplomates to:

• Carry out support services to lawyers in the running of the affairs of their chambers
• Facilitate the establishment of the attorney-client relationship
• Assist in the production of legal documents, and papers
• Manage cases
• Assist in the Advocacy of Human Rights
• Effectively manage a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO)
• Exercise paralegal function in the courts system
• Provide effective support to law enforcement agencies and other institutions involved in the administration of justice
• Keep office accounts and records.
